Wednesday December 28 - Day 222
It took me two days to get this workout done. He sent it to me Monday, but since my Josie was sick, I skipped both Monday and Tuesday, so I finally got to it today. I should have ignored it and just asked for a new one.
10 hang clean and jerks
10 burpees
7 rounds
and then
100 v ups
I needed lots of help with the hang cleans. I don't get it. It does not feel natural and I'm sure I bruised my shoulders where I kept letting the barbell fall onto them. I really need to work on the form for those. One of the guys helping me said that I had good form. When I went slow with it. But it has to be fast, explosive like and I wasn't getting that. I'll need to work on that a lot if I'm going to get anything out of the exercise. I had the jerks down just fine, dip down a bit and push press the bar up. Easy peasy.
I also only did 6 rounds so I could try to do the v ups before having to leave for the union meetings. I did 60 of those. Hopefully, I can wash my hair in the morning cause my arms feel like noodles.

Friday December 23 - Day 221
I love timed workouts. Not workouts I have to time, but a certain set time to finish the workout. AMRAPs are perfect for me. I go as fast as I can and really push myself during an AMRAP.

After I posted last night, he contacted me to apologize for forgetting to send me something. I told him not worry about, I was just happy my head did not implode while I was working out. He then told me it might "tomorrow" Ugh. Thanks for the warning!
He then asked if I quit smoking yet. I wish I could answer yes to that question. I really need to set a quit date and try again. It's really making a difference in my workouts and how I feel during and after them.

Monday December 5 - Day 211
I was so looking forward to my workout. The weather has been crappy, I've felt crappy from the antibiotics I'm on and I just wanted to forget about stress for at least 30 minutes (average time for one of my workouts).
He gave me a 30 minute AMRAP (o_O)
10 db presses (#15 on left/#10 on right)
10 push ups
10 ring rows
10 squats
I got into the 4th round and realized my shoulder was NOT feeling right. It felt like my long thoracic nerve was tightening up, which causes pain at the top of my shoulder and then down my side. I cringed while doing the ring rows in the 4th round and he saw me. He asked me if my shoulder was hurting and I said, yeah it's starting too.
He sent me home to ice it. Told me to stop what I was doing and go ice it. So I did. I also took some ibuprofen for it before leaving the office.
I did, however, do the 10 squats to finish out the 4th round because I'm a nut like that.

Thursday December 1 - Day 209
We are getting closer to my 1 year anniversary of doing Crossfit like workouts everyday of the work week. I can guarantee you, I will NOT be mentioning that milestone to The Trainer. No sireee. I will not. Please remind me of that as the days move on. I'll hit the one year mark on one of his duty days next week and I am hoping I can keep my freaking mouth shut.
For today, I was just not in the mood. I had no specific reason for it, I just didn't want to work out. But you know I did.

I had a pretty crappy day. Nothing work related though, so it's all good. I got through the day and at 4pm, I was heading downstairs to get tortured. I mean, get my workout from The Trainer who was actually working a trade today.

Since it was his duty day, I didn't bug The Trainer for a workout because I knew he'd make one up for me to do while they were doing their own workout.
Just as he was getting ready to write it down on the white board, they got a call. *sigh* I kind of wandered, doing some stretching and warm up and decided to get on the bike for a bit to see if they came back quickly.
I did 50 calories on the bike and then wanted to try knee ups, to see how my shoulder blade took to hanging from a pull up bar.
As I was doing the knee ups, they returned and made up something feeding off of what I'd already done

The hardest part was the knee ups. I didn't have my workout gloves down there with me so the bar tore up my hand. I should say the tape around the bar tore up my hands. Ugh!

I've decided I need to change my eating habits. In a big way. I mean, I don't eat 100% unhealthy all the time, but it could improve. I am, yet again, setting a goal for this and will start working on it.

Wednesday November 23 - Day 205
Last day of the week for workouts....unless I get a wild hair up my a$$ and decide to do something here at home. If I do, I will post here. But with the way my arms are feeling after this week? I probably won't. I can barely move without whimpering.
This workout excited me more than most. Simply for the first thing on the list. I've been talking about doing these again for almost 8 months.

Fun fun fun! The burpees actually felt better than the push ups did, that's for certain. I don't know if it was because I wasn't constantly holding myself up during the burpees or what. It was so fast (the push up part of it) that it didn't really hurt at all while I was doing them.
I was pretty pleased with this workout. I enjoyed it. I also got to chat with The Trainer a bit when I was leaving about my feet cramping up. He said it could just be the way I'm jumping onto the boxes that cause the cramping every time I do them. Could be my shoes are old and they are pinching my feet in a weird way when I jump on the box. Basically, he didn't really know what was causing the cramping. lol He did say, however, that since they (my feet) have muscles and tendons just like everywhere else in my body, they are prone to getting cramps and feeling sore too. Who woulda thunk it. :P

I asked him pretty early for a workout. Ya never know what he's going to send me, so I wasn't really looking forward too, but I've made this commitment to myself to not give up and to keep doing the best I can with the crap he hands out. Today, I was tested.

I made it. I made it to day #200! So pleased with that for some reason.
However, I am NOT pleased with the fact I don't know how to keep my mouth shut. I told him that it was day #200 and as soon as I sent that text, I knew. I knew he would concoct some awful, horrifying workout for me.

So on and so forth. I died. I thought I hurt my shoulder again. I did 27 minutes of stairs and push ups and presses until I couldn't take it anymore. I left out the rest of the push ups and presses and just did the situps and bike.

Monday November 14 - Day 198
Getting closer and closer to day #200! I've never stayed committed to a workout plan before. I'm so pleased with the results and how I'm feeling, I can't imagine NOT doing these workouts. Yeah, I bitch about them, but like I told The Trainer, I bitch about them cause they hurt and they are sometimes hard for me to do, but I do them anyway.

My shoulder is not liking me right now, but it's not a "pain" it's just a discomfort that I have felt before. I took some ibuprofen and iced it.

Friday November 11 - Day 197
I had no idea what he had planned for me. I didn't ask throughout the day and he didn't say when I'd see him. I was just hoping it would kick my ass something fierce without hurting my legs more than they were already hurting from the box jumps yesterday.
He had me do a warm up first of 10 push ups and 10 shoulder presses - to see how they felt with my shoulder. I used 15# on the press. After I did the warm up, I felt okay, although the shoulder felt weird. I think it felt that way because this was the first time in 7 months I've done anything like that. Deadlifts work the top of my shoulders and don't engage the area of my shoulder that was hurt. Shoulder presses? They engage everything in the shoulder.

I started with 15# on both sides and it was too much for my right shoulder. I took it down 5 pounds on that side only, after discovering that we didn't have two dumbbells at 10#. *sigh*
I felt shaky and very weak during the push ups and presses. Extremely weak actually. I guess that's to be expected since it's the first time in so long. I'll work through it and work up on the weights I'm sure. He was worried and doesn't want me to hurt it again. I'm sure I'll be sore at some point tomorrow, if not tonight. I feel pretty good about my first real "lifting" workout in awhile.

I was a little excited about this workout. Until I got downstairs and realized I had to remove some weight plates from the barbell before I could begin my workout. *sigh* These bars are so freaking old, it's like pulling teeth trying to replace the weights on them. I got quite a workout before my actual workout. I also go black stuff from the rubber plates all over my hands, which made me a little cranky.

Monday November 7 - Day 194 and Tuesday November 8 - Day 195
He never got back to me on Monday, so I made some stuff up as I went and I can't even remember what I did. I know I did some box jumps and sit ups. I also did some one arm rows with 10#.
On Tuesday, he was working, but they got a call before he could write something up for me, so I did this:

He says I half assed it. I disagreed, but whatever. Yes, I've had harder workouts, but I always tell him I will NEVER willingly kick my butt the way he does. He'll just have to be okay with that.
Good news today: I got a full release from physical therapy for my shoulder. She wants me to ease back into the lifting thing and trusts that he will guide me with the weight and what not. YAY!

Approaching day #200
As the weeks and days pass on, I'm realizing I'm getting close to day #200 of doing Crossfit style workouts and practically killing myself doing it.
My Trainer opened up something inside of me that I did not know existed. A passion for fitness and health. I've never been more aware of my health or fitness in my life. I've become obsessed with NOT missing my workouts. I rearrange almost everything in order to get my workout in for the day. I make sure I make no plans after work, until after my workout. I make sure I only miss workouts if I have a doctor's or PT appointment.
It's become such a big part of my life, I stopped at the newest athletic clubs this morning and put in an application for a part time front desk job. See, I've been obsessed with finding a part time job in the fitness industry for months. I've been watching Careerbuilder and Craigslist for specific jobs.
They posted the ad yesterday afternoon, I responded to the ad with my resume' attached and stopped in to fill out the application. The guy at the gym told me I was the first person to respond to the ad. I was kinda happy about that, but when it comes down to it, I will obsess that since I was the first applicant, they'll lose my application. Go figure.
Here's hoping I get the part time job, which would be a few hours on the week nights and probably an all day shift on the weekends. 20-25 hours per week.
And this brings me closer to day #200 of this new life of mine.

Thursday November 3 - Day 192
In a month, it'll be a year since I started this journey. My how time flies when you're having fun!
He gave me a AMRAP workout today. Which is different. I don't remember having one before now, but I'll have to check my archives to be sure.
20 minutes - as many rounds as possible (AMRAP)
10 calories on bike
10 box jumps
20 sit ups
I did 5 full rounds an additional 10 calories on bike & 10 box jumps. I was more than halfway through with the 6th round when my timer pinged and told me it was time to stop. I then left a lung on the floor of the gym. Holy crap. It may have only been 20 minutes long, but it kicked my butt!
And for my first AMRAP (that I remember), I think I did pretty good on it. I was averaging about 3:47-3:50 per rounds. Not too bad for someone who slowed way down on the bike, but made up for it on the jumps and sit ups.
I find myself suddenly very fascinated by the box jumps, something that scared the you know what outta me just a few short weeks ago. I love being able to do those things.

Tuesday November 1 - Day 190
Before I had a chance to ask him for a workout, he sent me one with an apology about yesterday. I told him no worries, since he does this shit for free for me, I will not bitch or complain on the days he forgets to send me something. I might get fussy just because I hate making stuff up myself, but I won't get mad at him. And then, he showed why I adore my Trainer oh so very much. His response to that was "Free or not, I said I would do it. I'm sorry." Oh so sweet and thoughtful.

We all know what I do with that word "fast" when there is a lot of cardio involved. I pretty much ignore it and just push myself as much as I can. It doesn't work so well on the stairs, but I do my best and that's all I can ask for. The stairs slowed me way, way down. Yes, I know I need to quit smoking again.
Apparently, I'm jumping about 4 inches above the 20" box on the jumps. I kinda like that, but I'm hoping he doesn't try to switch it up anytime soon cause my comfort zone is pretty comfortable right now with box jumps at 20". I don't want to go to 24" yet.
I added 30 pounds to the deadlifts this time because the 35 I did last week were nothing. I also don't want to push the shoulder yet. I see the therapist next week and I have a feeling she will discharge me. We'll see.
I feel good about this workout, although it kicked my a$$.

I went into today feeling beat up, chewed up and spit out. I don't know why I was dragging ass so badly, but I was.
I asked him to send me something for today and found out that he was working today, so he'd get to kick my butt in person again like when he's on duty on his regular days.

Apparently, that whole "my legs feel like bricks and they burn" feeling while I'm on the bike is what is supposed to happen while I'm on the bike. Imagine my disappointment with that. HA! Also, he had me use the medicine ball (12#) during the Russian twists. Yuck. Those hurt.
I am incredibly happy it's Friday and I get to rest for two days.

YAY! I did 35 pounds on the deadlifts, only cause I'm worried about hurting myself with the shoulder still being wonky. However, 35 pounds was too light, if you ask me. I'm reigning myself in though and doing exactly what The Trainer and the Physical Therapist instruct me to do.
It felt awesome actually doing deadlifts again. Even if it was a low weight, I felt like I was actually doing something! Although, my legs hurt even worse than they did before I started.
This was a quick workout and I ended up doing it in less than 9 minutes.

Since I missed both Thursday and Friday, since I was on vacation, I was really ready for my workout today at 4pm. Or so I thought.
After my workout Wednesday, I asked The Trainer if it was supposed to make my back hurt, which it's not supposed to. I told him today it felt like I had done a deadlift. Well I remembered WHY it felt like I did a deadlift, because I did! DUH! Oh well. At least I know I wasn't doing anything wrong with the jumps. He also led me to believe the fact I was using my arms to kind of propel myself up and forward is normal and okay.
Today's torture....I mean workout:

Wednesday October 19 - Day 182
I sent the Trainer a text pretty early to send me something and he said he would. A few hours later (just before noon) he sent me this:

I lost it. I was so beside myself I didn't know what to do. I had never, ever done a box jump. Shit, the highest I've jumped as an adult was to do a jump squat and that's usually about 3-4 inches - if that! The other time I jump is during jump ropes and that is not even 2 inches off the ground. And here he wanted me, a first timer in box jumping to do 20"? Seriously? And he wanted me to do it fast? Now I know he's smoking crack or something.
I immediately hit Google and found this fantastic article about conquering the fear of box jumps. She goes into GREAT detail about how to psych yourself up for doing it.
I took her advice from #2 specifically and focused on this nail that was on the top of the box in the middle. I wanted to plant my feet right there. For the most part, I did just that. I nailed it. A few times when I first started, I fell forward and caught myself with my right wrist. But for the most of the workout, once I got out of my own way and pushed that mental fear of breaking something aside, I did them.
I can't tell you how accomplished I feel in doing those. I completed the entire workout and I have not felt this proud about that in quite some time. It's been awhile since he threw something new into the mix, especially with my shoulder being lame-o, can't do much new stuff. The box jumps threw me for a loop for sure, but I did it! woohoo!
Now I'm going to enjoy my four day weekend and do nothing.

I ended up with a cramp in my right foot where I have that Morton's nueroma. When it gets over worked, crushed by the shoes I wear, or extreme cold, it likes to freak out and drive me insane.

Monday September 26 - Day 167
I sent a text to The Trainer pretty early asking for a workout. I let him know that I'm skipping today (Tuesday) so to make it difficult if he feels like it.
In a way, I think he listened. In another way, not so much. It looked harder on paper than it actually was to do. Although, I'm sure my thighs would disagree after doing all those squats!

Not too bad. My shoulder didn't like the rows today, but I made it through without killing myself. One of the guys who is on a 40 hour schedule now and works out everyday told me he would see me "tomorrow" I told him nope, I'm skipping it tomorrow. I think his jaw hit the floor. I am always working out Monday through Friday after 4pm. It's a rare day for me to skip a day.
I'll be back at it tomorrow!

Wednesday September 21 - 164
Apparently, I hurt myself more than I thought when I fell forward during those step ups the other day. My left knee and left wrist were raging all day yesterday and my knee ended up swelling. I skipped my workout, came home and iced the knee all night.
It felt great today until I saw what the Trainer wrote on the white board for me. *sigh*

7 rounds? Really? Probably going to start giving me sh*t like this to work it up to 10 rounds of sh*t like this. Holy crap. As he walked away from the white board, he said "have fun with that one." He was laughing as he went upstairs after hearing me cuss him out.
This workout was fairly easy to do, even though it doesn't look easy on paper. The lunges got to me in round 6, but I finished all 7 rounds and it only took me 35 minutes for the entire thing. Next time, I can work at going a little faster to beat that time.
I feel like I keep typing "headache" in place of workout. This workout gave me a massive, raging headache right behind my right eye and temple. Holy crap! It went away by the time I got home though, but dang it hurt!

I'm not doing well on the whole quitting smoking thing. And to make it worse, I'm now out of patches until at least Friday when I get paid. Will do my best throughout the week and recycle this one patch from today and hopefully I can get some time under my belt again *sigh*
The Trainer remembered to send me something pretty early. I like it when that happens cause then I don't have to remind him or come up with something myself.

I did this in 12:43. The lunges slowed me WAY down. I dislike lunges as it is and doing them standing still, one leg at a time made them seem worse than they normally are. Pfft. Whatever, I did them.
I also did 10 (each arm) bent rows with a 5 pound dumbell - twice. So I did a total of 20 of the bent rows that my therapist said I could do. I can see why she wants me using 5 pounds. Ouch. Lots of work ahead for this right arm of mine!

Thursday September 15 - Day 161
Update on shoulder: It is now only 1/4 of an inch away from aligning with my spine like it's supposed to be (also just like the left). When I started this journey of PT in June, my shoulder blade was over an inch away from my spine where it's supposed to be. So we've come at least an inch in 5 months. I'm thinking I'll be near 100% in another month or so. YAY!
I also kind of pressured her into approving me to do bent over rows. The compromise was that I do them with only five pounds; with dumbbells and not both at the same time. So I will be able to stand with my left leg forward and my left hand leaning on a surface while I do the right arm rows and then switch for the left arm. 5 pounds makes me wanna cry, but it's a freaking start and I'm stoked!

I'm a little excited. I go to PT tomorrow for most likely the last time unless the shoulder gets worse or I hurt something else (hopefully I didn't just jinx myself. Friday September 9 Day 158
My main goal today was to make sure I did NOT have an asthma attack OR have a cigarette. I made a pig of myself and ate almost anything I came across that was edible. Nutty bars; almonds; chicken salad; rolls with cinnamon butter, you see where this is going.
I mentioned to the Trainer I'd like a workout. Of course, he fussed at me about my smoking. I fussed right back at him. F*ck. It's not like I'm not trying. It's not like I am currently on Day 3 right now as I type this. I asked him to come up with something for me and I knew in my head that I may scale it down due to not feeling 100% after yesterday's little issue.

Thursday September 8 - Day 157
Oh what a day.
This is currently day 2 of the no smoking attempt (attempt #eleventy billion in case you're counting). Emotionally, I'm a freaking space case and a hot mess. Seriously twisted.
My plan today was to do whatever workout he sent, clean up, go to dinner with my friend/coworker and then go to the Patriot Game - it's the annual Police vs Fire basketball game, in honor of the victims of 9/11 and to help support The Healing Place (which I think I found where I want to volunteer my time).

Now, ya know I have asthma, right? Since I've started working out intensely and with Crossfit stuff mixed in, I've had to use my inhaler during two workouts. The first was when I first started and the 2nd is when I first tried to quit smoking in January. Today, made three times I've had to use my inhaler and give up on a workout.
I got 2 full rounds in and then at the beginning of round 3, my coworker ran upstairs to get my inhaler for me. It was horrible. It knocked me on my ass. It was not a full asthma attack, but it was enough to kick my butt.
We cleaned up, went to dinner and then to the game. Fire lost, but it was a good time anyway. I'm done for the day now.

I was (and still am) emotionally twisted right now. I've been struggling with quitting smoking and it's bugging the crap outta me. I just can't get a handle on it yet, but I'll keep trying.
Someone who is also twisted about me smoking is The Trainer. Driving me batshit. Also, he's still the only person to make me feel BAD that I'm still smoking off and on. While it kinda bugs me he seems so obsessed with me quitting, I know his intentions are good and he just wants me to be healthy. But it never fails, after he's done fussing at me or giving me a hard time about it, I feel like a failure. That's on me, not him.

I half assed the workout today. And I'm not even feeling the slightest bit guilty....

I'm so bored with working out when The Trainer doesn't send me stuff. My lack of creativity with the same shit every day is horrendous! He at least makes it seem like we're shaking things up, ya know? He also kicks my ass quite well.
As you know, I've been struggling with laying the cigarettes down again. I'm going to be the only one in the office the rest of this week, no smokers will be there. I'm slapping the patch on first thing in the morning and I'm making this happen! I'm so over the smoking thing.

I found out the trainer is out of town so I refused to bug him today for a workout. This meant that I had to push through all the distractions and make up my own stuff. I made it up as I went and I believe I left a lung downstairs.

Monday August 29 - Day 149
Unfortunately for me, today was a P3 day AND the Trainer didn't get back to me with a workout. I had to come up with something myself at the same time as being Chatty Kathy. I love all the guys on all three platoons, but there is a certain level of chattiness that comes with each different platoon. P3 is the chattiest of the three. My motivation goes out the window when people engage me in conversation while I'm trying to kick my own ass with a workout.

Friday August 26 - Day 148

Whenever he puts "fast" or "as fast as possible" I try to remember to time my entire workout. I don't time each round individually, unless he tells me to do so.
I timed myself and completed this in 26:49. YAY! But I also left a lung in the basement, I'm sure. A total of 25 stair runs definitely killed my lungs. Seriously. Who does that? lol Obviously, I do!
After the workout, I went to the PT place and picked up a half foam roller my therapist ordered for me. It will let me do some of the home exercises and stretches she's assigned me to do daily. I was using a rolled up towel, but it's too squishy and not giving my spine and shoulder blade the support they need.

I sent The Trainer a text and asked for a workout. He sent me one, but it wasn't what I was expecting! He asked me how I was feeling (after yesterday's lung cleanser) and I told him I was a little sore, but not bad.

Wednesday August 24 - Day 146
After not fussing at the Trainer for forgetting me on Monday, that MFer actually texted me first thing Tuesday morning with a horrendous workout. Luckily (or not) I had PT, so I had to save it for today. It gave me 24 hours to chew on this and dread it and freak out over it.

50 lunges
I have no words. Other than I thought I was going to die (not literally, being sarcastic). It was horrendous. I did not completely do this 100%. I did the 10 stair runs fine, the bike kicked my ass and I got half that in. Everything else I did everything. So really, the only thing I did not Rx is the bike.
I really struggle on the bike, so this tells me I need to do it more. This tells me I need to focus on that area of weakness and get better at it. Just like I did with the stairs when I first started this. I thought I'd die with all those stair runs he gives me, but I just kept pushing and pushing. Now, I can run the stairs 4 times in a row without having to stop and catch my breath. I need to push myself on the bike some more. Definitely.
Now I'm going to relax before going back out to the union meeting.

I didn't hear from The Trainer today. He's on vacation for the next week, but told me I could still text for workouts. I only did not fuss at him for forgetting to send me something because it's his birthday. I felt forgiving.

Wednesday August 17 - Day 142
I did not feel good today, at all. I don't know what it was. Could have been the cigarettes I smoked and I was kinda beating myself up for it. But I put the patch on this morning before work and my cravings actually weren't that bad.
I never heard back from the Trainer today, so I kind of just half assed some stuff

I was really focused on the bike thing this time. I wanted to time myself so I can start shaving time off of those parts of my workout. It took me 11:53 to do 100 calories on the bike, which ended up being 3.2 miles. I did the extra 30 calories backwards, to use the arms of the bike for my shoulder exercises.
I had decided to time myself on the 100 because I had been talking to one of the guys who works out sometimes with me and we got onto that topic. I made faces at him and told him to f*ck off at least once when he mentioned how long it took me to complete the bike portion of yesterday's workout. I may have made faces at him and told him to f*ck off, but what he said stuck with me and I found myself wanting to improve that time. But first I had to KNOW what that time was. I'm sure the 2nd 100 would have been higher just due to the fact the crap hurts my legs and I stop a lot so that my legs don't burst into flames.
So now I have a starting point on starting to shave time off of that 100 calories. We'll see how it goes and I'm sure I will eventually do it. When I was doing stairs the first few months, I hated them so badly I would half ass em and take forever to finish all the stair runs. Now I do those pretty fast for the most part (unless there are 10 in a row cause by #6 I'm slowing down!)

Tuesday August 16 - Day 141
I had a bad day. I was on Day #2 of no smoking and I was dying. All the literature I've read says that cravings only last a few minutes and to do something else until it passes. Well for fucks sake, I had an urge/craving all damn day! All I wanted to do was rip the patch off and go have a cigarette. I don't remember having this hard of a time in January when I quit for 32 days. I just don't.
I told The Trainer I wanted to blow up the freaking building today and then asked if he would make something up for me and he said he would.

Good Lord! Not only did it kick my ass, but it took me about 60 minutes to complete. Holy fricking hell it was insane. I am still beat down from it. Although, the beat down feeling could also be the headache I've had all freaking day.
Also, I caved and went to the store to buy a pack of cigarettes on my way home. I've smoked two of them. I'm taking them to work tomorrow and giving them to my Co-worker. I was looking forward to getting my ass kicked in the workout today. Imagine my disappointment (/sarcasm) when they ended up doing confined space training most of the afternoon and didn't get back until after I had already started working out.

I barely even know what to say about this workout. I had a stressful day at work (it was payroll Monday) so I was ready for an ass kicking from The Trainer. Little did I realize exactly how badly my ass would get kicked!

After the workout? He definitely succeeded. I've set a new quit date. I figure it's either quit smoking or quit working out. I'm not willing to quit working out.

The Trainer said he's make something up for me, but they got busy so I didn't want to interrupt whatever they were doing in the firehouse.

150 jump ropes (there is something fascinating about this exercise....besides the fact my hair won't stay up in the ponytail when I do it lol)

Not much, but enough to please me. I am now on vacation, so I won't get a real workout until I come back. Unless I text him from Vegas and ask for one on a few of the days I'll be out there. I did invest in a $3 jump rope at Walmart a few weeks ago, so I am taking that so I can use my aunt's back deck/patio area to get some cardio in on a few of the days.

Remaining accountable...
I skipped my workout today. We had no A/C in the office, but I ended up sitting on the other side of the building so that wasn't why I skipped it. I skipped it because the union had our annual family picnic and I chose to go to that.
I may miss tomorrow too. I have a meeting at 1pm, that is scheduled for 2 hours and then I have my physical therapy appointment at 4pm. I may end up rescheduling the PT appointment. If I do that, I'll do my workout. If I don't, then I won't be working out tomorrow either - unless I decide to use the elliptical here at home.

Friday July 15 - Day 130
Fairly early in the day, I asked The Trainer for a workout. A few hours later, he sent me the workout. Let me just say, before posting it and then giving my thoughts on it that after I read it I wanted to cry. Literally wanted to curl up in a ball somewhere and cry.

The stairs killed me. It was horrible! Since the little window a/c unit we have down there is a POS, it was wicked hot in the gym when I got down there. This workout made it 10x worse.
The good news, I finished it all and I can now relax for the next two days before asking him for more torture.

The stairs killed me. It was horrible! Since the little window a/c unit we have down there is a POS, it was wicked hot in the gym when I got down there. This workout made it 10x worse.
The good news, I finished it all and I can now relax for the next two days before asking him for more torture.

Thursday July 14 - Day 129
My legs were pretty sore from the lunges yesterday, but I figured I'd ask for a workout anyway. Wowzers. What was I thinking?
10 jump squats
20 cal on bike
30 sit ups
15 minutes - AMRAP (as many rounds as possible)
I did one full round before remembering to turn on the timer. Ooops! And then I did 4 rounds plus 10 jump squats and 12 more calories on the bike.
Originally, he wanted me to do 20 push ups and I had to remind him about my shoulder. Would LOVE to do that, however, my physical therapist and I would not appreciate it much when my shoulder went downhill instead of progressing the way it is.
And now that I can hardly walk due to the lunges yesterday and jump squats today, I'm going to go relax until it's time for school at 8pm.

Wednesday July 13 - Day 128
I sent a request for a workout and he did not disappoint. He also kicked my ass.

The lunges did me in! Holy hell those hurt! I was laying on the blue mat after my last round of sit ups, thinking to myself for f*cks sake! How am I going to climb those stairs to go get my stuff and go home? I also sent that to him and his response? "Sweet....mission accomplished." Jackass.
I checked the machine I thought would help me with my physical therapy exercises and it's a no-go. Not the type of machine I need so I won't be able to incorporate those exercises from yesterday. Bummer!

Physical therapy today and progress on shoulder
It's been almost 3.5 months since I hurt my shoulder. Since I somehow, in the middle of the night, managed to pinch or damage the long thoracic nerve. In turn, the damage on this nerve caused the winging in my shoulder blade.
Since I started PT at the beginning of June, my shoulder has come a very long way! It's winging at about half of the angle it was before, my strength is returning and I still have full range of motion most of the time. I say most of the time, because sometimes it locks up on me and I don't have that.
At today's session, she gave me some new exercises after massaging the neck and shoulder area and manipulating my neck/skull where the LTN starts. The tighter that area gets, the more my scapula wings and the more discomfort I experience. I do my stretches for that area several times throughout the day.
I've still been doing my 30 wall push ups per day. I do 15 in the morning and 15 at night. Some days are better than others for that exercise. Some days it doesn't bother me at all and others it makes my neck and shoulder hurt so badly I want to cry.
One of the exercises she gave me today was actually lifting weights (in a weird way) and I just giggled throughout the whole time we were doing that one. It was a very low weight (5lbs), but damnit I was lifting weights again! We have a machine in the gym at work that is very similar to the one she had me use today, so I'm going to see if it will work. If it does, I'll be incorporating those exercises into my workout routine. Every day.
Hoping to get a workout from The Trainer tomorrow. If not, I'm sure I'll make something up!

Monday July 11 - Day 127
The Trainer was working today, but I rarely see him when he's in the building sometimes, so I sent him a text asking him to make something up for me. I never heard back or got a response, so I made something up myself.

I ended up doing one round of the above and then one round of 60 each of those exercises.
The heat index is at 114 right now, per the weather channel, and it was 116 earlier when I started my workout. I avoided running the stairs due to that and I still overheated to the point I got puke-y (but not from the workout).

I gave myself a few hours before posting here because it was disgusting and I wanted to hurt someone when I was done. lol Specifically, I wanted to hurt The Trainer. I so hated him for a minute.

I sent the Trainer a text, asking for a quick workout that could be done quickly since I had a 5pm hair appointment.

I was waiting on the Trainer to write down my workout and they got a knock out - so he had to run out. *sigh* Since I didn't know how long they'd be gone, I started on the bike and my goal was 50 calories. Thankfully, in the middle of that, they returned so he wrote me a workout:

Fitness goals
Do you have fitness goals? I do. I've had them since I started this journey. While my shoulder injury sidelined quite a few of those goals for me, I've created new ones.
One of the goals I was heading towards was being able to #1 - do regular push ups (not on my knees) #2 - do a pull up without having to jump or be propped up there.
Since the shoulder injury, I've done some research on Crossfit videos and I found one that pretty much sums up one of my fitness goals...
This is a guy doing GI Jane - a Crossfit WOD with pull ups involved.
Watch it. The guy is a beast! He does the WOD in about 10 minutes. I'm sure it will take me much longer, but I will eventually do this workout. I promise. When I promise, I'm promising myself. I've made commitments to myself during my whole fitness journey. You know I've taken too many sips of the Kool Aid when my fitness goal involves burpees of any kind.

Friday July 1 - Day 123
I had sent a text to The Trainer, but never heard from him so I went downstairs anyway and did this:

And then some stretching. I tried my shoulder exercises for the day, but after physical therapy this morning, there was no way it was happening. My shoulder is very sore.

Thursday - June 30 Day 122
I got back into town yesterday afternoon and after unpacking a bit, I sent The Trainer a text, asking if he would be able to make up a workout for me to do after work today. He said sure and then I plum forgot! Until my cell phone beeped at me at about 8pm last night and I looked at the text message. o.O

Seriously. I told him I'd probably be cussing him after I finished it. If I could finish it!
I did 3 full rounds and 3 stair runs into the 4th round, I puked. Literally. At the top of the stairs of the 3rd run, I realized what was going to happen so I went running into the bathroom upstairs. Not pretty. No bueno.
I collected myself and went back to the basement to get my stuff. After I did that, I went back up to my office and got my belongings. I sent a text to him and said "On one hand - I think you suck. On the other hand, thank you for reminding why I want to quit smoking (again)."
It is seriously time for me to set another quit date and stick to it this time. Can't tell you how many quit dates I've come up with and I've always found an excuse. Here we go again!

Thursday June 23 - Day 121
I started this journey 198 days ago, weight just about 195. I now weight 174, after losing a total of 26 and then gaining a few pounds back in muscle and the lack of being able to lift weights. I've lost 2 dress sizes, going from size 14 in most of my close, to a size 10 in some of my clothes. My size 12 clothes still work and I just use a belt and hope they don't fall off.
My goal had been to hit size 8 by the time summer started (June 21). My shoulder injury sidelined that goal, so I've set a new one to just keep doing what I'm doing, working out hard with what I can do and doing exactly what the physical therapist and doctor tell me to do with the shoulder.
The Trainer was going to make something up for me, but they ended up having a run at 5 til 4pm. So I knew, as I heard them pulling out of the firehouse, that I would be making something up myself.

Wasn't much, but it sure kicked my ass. I really need to set a quit date again and start trying to quit smoking again. It kills my cardio stamina and since most of what I do is cardio related, I need to make that decision again.
I may do something here at home tomorrow, we'll see how I'm feeling and how busy I am. I may take Josie for a walk since it's supposed to barely be 80 degrees.

I skipped Monday, thanks to physical therapy. I'll also miss tomorrow's workout. But I'll be back at it both Thursday and even though I'm off on Friday, I will probably do something here at home like use the elliptical and do some leg work.
Today, I asked The Trainer to send me something and this is what I go:

Holy crap! I got a full 3 rounds done before I pooped out and did have the 4th round and then quit. I feel crappy that I quit, but glad I got some shit out of this workout. It was much needed today.

Day 118 (Thursday) and Friday June 17 - Day 119
I made my way downstairs to the gym yesterday and I felt like I was in a funk. I did 300 jump ropes and 150 calories on the bike. I was half assin it for sure. As soon as I was done, I texted The Trainer and told him I think I need to start harassing him everyday for a workout because I am so not creative with these things and I found myself doing the same shit over and over. Seriously can't do much more, cause of the shoulder, but at least he throws some different things in there for me to do.
I saw him today and we were talking about my shoulder and how much I'd give to be able to do a burpee right now. He knew it was bad if *I* am wanting to do burpees. I also said I'd be happy with a push up or two. But since I can't do those things yet, I asked him to come up with something for me.

I'm seriously considering looking into some physical fitness classes to become a personal trainer. Seriously how much money is he making on the side?

Tuesday June 14 - Day 117
I skipped posting for about a week. I did two more workouts last week and then today was my first of this week. I try not to work out on the days I have PT cause it seems to aggravate the shoulder even more. I am all taped up with some sort of therapy tape, to try to stabilize the shoulder blade and keep it flat against my thoracic muscle. It's annoying as shit, but it also does help with the aches I get in between the PT sessions.
Today this is what I did:
3 minutes on the bike (didn't count the calories) I did this in between each set of sit ups and squats for a total of 15 minutes on the bike.
50-40-30-20-10 of sit ups and squats
I was done in less than an hour and I got to talk to The Trainer quite a bit too. I love P2 days because there is activity down in the gym and it makes the workout go a little (okay, a lot) faster. I also push myself more because I feel like I'm not alone.
I'm looking for a Tabata timer for my Blackberry and can't seem to find one. I want to start incorporating some Tabata workouts into my daily routines and I need one of those timers. Stupid Blackberry. I found TONS for the iPhone or iPad, and even one for the Blackberry wannabe/rip off of the iPad. I'll just keep looking and if it's a reputable website, I'll probably snag it!
Now to go ice the shoulder and finish up a research paper for school.

Tuesday June 7 - Day 114
I skipped Friday due to leaving work early and going to Churchill Downs for the Turf Classic. It's an annual event where some of our firefighters run for charity. It was a great afternoon. We got there around 2:00 or so and I finally got home at 7pm. It was exhausting.
Monday, I skipped so that I could go to my first physical therapy appointment at 5pm. It was a good session and my next one is tomorrow morning.
I needed to burn off some stress today, so I pushed myself a little more than I normally do. Tomorrow, I'm asking The Trainer to come up with something for me so I can REALLY get my ass kicked. I need a good workout and I'm not really giving it to myself, even though I pushed myself today, I feel like I could have done more.

I skipped the workout yesterday due to inclement weather. I felt the need to come home and prepare rather than run steps and make myself sick! lol
Today, I lost my temper twice at work, so in order for me to leave it in the building, so to speak, I did:

So for the bike and sit ups, I did a total of 100 each and the stairs totaled 6 runs. Felt good doing it and felt even better when I finished.

Friday May 20 - Day 106
I haven't bugged The Trainer for a workout since I went to the doctor two weeks ago. Just seems like I'd be bugging him, ya know? So today I did:

It was enough to help me realize I need to do this consistently and every.single.day until my shoulder heals so I'll be up to the upper arm stuff I'll be doing.
I'm hoping I'll get into some physical therapy and it will fix the problem and heal up quickly. But I have 12 more days until I see the specialist and it's driving me batshit crazy. At least in 12 days, I'll know what's going on with it and will hopefully be doing something about it instead of sitting here and waiting. I hate waiting. I'm not patient. AT ALL.

Thursday May 19 Day 105
Didn't do much today, but I did run the stairs 10x - so it was something. I've decided I'm going to do the stairs thing every other day and then the bike and lower body stuff on the days I'm not doing the stairs.
I wanted to remind myself why I was wanting to quit smoking and the stairs reminded me, that's for certain. And then after getting home and lighting a cigarette, I proceeded to burn the shit outta my right calf. I have a litte (about a dime size) burn with a blister in the middle of it already. Nice. Also ruined my favorite pair of workout pants - which pisses me off more than the fact I burned myself to begin with.
Glad I bought some patches recently - time to use them again.

Tuesday Day 103 and Wednesday May 18 Day 104
I just did 150 calories on the bike on Tuesday. I had a hair appointment at 5:15 and I knew I did not want to be sitting in my funky sweat for 3 hours while she did my hair and we bullshitted!
Today, I made it up again cause The Trainer was out doing training, so I couldn't harass him for a workout.

The sit ups hurt my shoulder a bit today, so I took it easy on everything. While this may look like it was hard, for some reason I feel like I half assed it. It took me 40 minutes to complete.

Monday May 16 - Day 102
Well, we know how limited I am in what I can actually do in my workouts, but I did something. I'll keep doing something everyday and I will either make it up as I go, or ask The Trainer to help me out with stuff because I am not creative with these things like he is. Could be why he's the Trainer and I'm not :P

I have also been thinking about when my shoulder heals completely and I've made the sadistic decision I want to get into the whole Crossfit thing, 100%. Unlike right now, where I'm doing the exercises but not really doing Crossfit in the truest sense of the word.
Once I visit the orthopedic guy on the 1st, I'll make my decision final and I'll talk to The Trainer about it. While I'm still benefiting and definitely seeing & feeling the results, I have decided I want to push myself a little more. Okay, a lot more. And since that is the purpose of Crossfit, to push myself as far as I can, I might as well take the magic pill. Who knows, I might end up enjoying it more than I do now. *ahem*

Thursday May 12 - Day 100 & Friday May 13 - Day 101
Yesterday, The Trainer was back from vacation but we had already pretty much decided I'd just be running stairs and/or riding the bike. So I did 5 stair runs; 50 cal on the bike; 30 squats for 2 rounds. I got pretty sweaty during the workout, but I've worked harder, that's for sure.
We were chatting a bit and apparently, I looked more frustrated than I thought and he asked if it was my shoulder or frustration that I couldn't really do anything. I told him it was a little bit of both. I'm going to keep doing something everyday - I don't want to get out of this habit, ya know? If I just NOT workout while my shoulder is healing, I will seriously get my ass whipped when it is 100% and he gives me more than I am used too. I can't let myself get out of the habit.

Wednesday May 11 - Day 99
In the last 155 days, I have worked out 99 of them. I can't believe where I'm currently at with my fitness levels compared to back in December when I started working out every day. I love it. I love seeing and feeling the results I've gotten.
I skipped the first two days of this week because my shoulder was bugging me and I went to the doctor yesterday for it. I have a winged scapula, caused by a pinched or damaged long thoracic nerve (nerve that goes from shoulder down side of chest near ribcage). I go see an ortho doctor June 1st for further evaluation and most likely some physical therapy will follow at some point. I may even end up at a neurologist to test the nerves to see how much damage there really is. Until all that plays out, I'll be doing a lot more stairs, riding of the bike and squats. Maybe even some sit ups, even though the ones I did today kinda irritated the shoulder.

Friday May 6 - Day 98
What a very slow day at work! Texted the trainer pretty early for a workout (as usual) and actually heard back immediately! YAY!!! Ummm...maybe.
He asked about my shoulder and I told him it was pissing me off. It doesn't hurt anymore (hasn't for awhile) but the shoulder blade is "weird" starts aching and makes my arm feel very heavy and sluggish when I move it sometimes. He told me to go to the doctor. Funny that, since I had just called and made an appointment for Tuesday of next week with my doctor. lol He and I are on the same wavelength quite a bit.

It looked pretty easy on paper, so it immediately told me that my ass would be kicked by the end of round three. Indeed. My ass is kicked.
The knee ups felt GREAT on my shoulder (no sarcasm), while hanging from the pull up bar to do them. However, now it's feeling heavier and sluggish. Time to ice it!

Tuesday May 3 - Day 96 and Thursday May 5 - Day 97
Tuesday was a bit of a blur, I remember doing something that he sent, I just can't remember what! I know it had 100 calories on the bike and 100 squats. I fussed at him for giving me such crappy stuff after I had barely gotten any sleep the night before. I received no sympathy. *sigh*
I didn't work out on Wednesday due to having a migraine and being home and in bed by 3pm.
Today, I never heard back from him so I did
75 calories on the bike
and then
50 sit ups
50 squats
50 jump rope
2 rounds
and then 25 more calories on the bike
I made it a pretty fast workout due to having to change and clean up to get ready for the Pegasus Parade that a bunch of us rode in on one of the fire trucks. It was fun.
Hopefully I hear from him tomorrow with a workout and I won't have to make one up myself!

Monday May 2 - Day 95
Getting close to 100 days of doing the workouts! While it's been since December, when I'm counting the days I don't count off days or rest days, so I've worked out 95 days (as of today) in the last 4 months. How cool is that? I'm quite pleased with my progress and the results that I'm seeing and feeling.
50 cal on bike
10 tricep dips
20 lunges
30 squats
40 sit ups
3 rounds
Argh! It looks fairly simple on paper, but trust me when I say it is not. It was NOT easy. My wrists barely held me up for the tricep dips and I used the bench instead of the parallel bars! Definitely need to strengthen the wrists!
The squats and lunges made me pukey - as I expected upon seeing them in the workout The Trainer sent me. Hate those things now! I used to like squats; until I hurt my shoulder and it seems to be the only thing I can do that doesn't hurt the shoulder lol
I've gone all day without a cigarette. Here's to Day 1 of my rollercoaster ride #eleventy billion.

Friday April 29 - Day 94
I was still moving pretty slowly from the workout of Wednesday. My legs were sore and my hips were not pleased with me. I asked him for a workout but didn't hear back until the very end of the day and the first thing he asked about was my shoulder. I let him know it had been pretty sore all day, so he gave me this (cried when I read it):

10 stair runs
200 sit ups
Seriously? I struggled greatly with the bike, since my hips and legs were still sore - but I did it! I then broke the stair runs and sit ups up. I did 5 stair runs and 100 situps and then 5 stair runs and 100 sit ups. Amazingly my abs don't hurt today - it's still just my hips and legs.
I was showing an apartment here at my second job and someone asked me what I did to my hip (?) said that's obvious I'm hurting. *sigh* Hope that shit goes away by Monday so I'm ready for my next workout!
I also cannot wait until my shoulder is 100% again so I can actually do some lifting and get back into that portion of my working out. I miss doing the push presses!
