First, let me say that I ended up telling my trainer that the workout he gave me today also gave me a cramp in my ass cheek. Awesomeness right there, people...
20 db thrusters
20 sdhp (Sudo Deadlift High Pull or something like that)
20 jumping squats
20 lunges
20 burpees
4 rounds
When we got this, I freaked out. What the hell is "sdhp"? Of course, it was a P1 day, so the trainer told me to check with those guys. Which, I did. It wasn't as hard as it looked in the few pictures I found on the web.
With the SDHP, you start like a deadlift and as you come up, you pull the bar up to your chin. I'm sure I'm not describing it well enough to do it justice, but it really wasn't as hard as it sounds.
I finished three rounds. I started the 4th and finished the thrusters and did about 5 of the sdhp for that round. However, I ended up getting the shakes and thought I was going to throw up on one of the P1 guys, so I stopped.
My workout partner let the two guys guilt her into a 4th round and she completed it. She told me after that she just gets tired of listening to them and so she didn't want to deal with them bitching. Me? I don't care so much. If I get to a point where I'm feeling like puking? I can guarantee you that I will stop.
One of the guys apologized to me for pushing me, while knowing I didn't feel I could do it. I told him not to ever apologize for pushing me to my limits with these workouts. He's one of three people allowed to do that. He said he just didn't want me to think he was being an asshole. Awwww that was sweet. I told him I may fuss back at him, but I do listen to him and I take what he says to heart and I value his opinion when it comes to these workouts.
Anyone above and beyond the two P1 guys and my trainer will be ignored from this day forward. I let them get to me last week and I won't do that again. Fuck that.
So yeah, besides sitting on an ice pack right now, I'm feeling halfway decent about my attempt at the workout today.
It's also official, I have started wearing size 10. I was a size 14 in July when I started walking. I've been wearing baggy, too big for me size 12s for the last several weeks cause some days they felt tight. I squee'd and then I did a little happy "jig" in the fitting room yesterday.
Feeling good about my journey....

Friday February 25 - Day 55
There may or may not be a rant at the end of this...
Both my workout partner and I thought this workout was ugly!
5 stair runs
25 burpees
25 db squat clean & jerk
25 knee ups
25 Russian twists
50 sit ups
5 stair runs
Okay...first, let me be accountable here and say that I've been smoking again this week. I know, I know. No lectures and no beating me up. I've done both enough for all of us. However, I am happy to say my new quit date is tomorrow and I'm going back on the patch as well. I could list all the reasons I started and picked em up again, and they are really valid, non-petty reason...but they are still just excuses.
I did the stairs. Proudly and without having to use my inhaler, I did the stairs.
When he first sent us this, I texted and asked about the squat clean and jerks cause they didn't sound familiar to me. He told me to ask the P1 guys. Okay, so I ask and they say they will show us. However, when it was time for us to do that particular exercise, they were out on a run - so we went on with the rest of this workout.
When we finished the rest of it, they showed up to show us the clean and jerks. In the middle of the other parts of the workout, the numb wore off on my mouth (had some dental work done earlier in the day) and my mouth was on fire. I just wanted to curl up in a corner and cry.
I tried the db squat clean and jerk and I think I did about 8 of them before giving up. First of all, my mouth was making me want to cry and second, they were really stupid and awkward. I'll keep trying though.
Once we did that, one of the guys started fussing at us for not timing our workouts. Apparently, Crossfit is big in timing your workout so you can see how you "progress." I don't get the timing thing. I hate it and have refused to time myself. Although, when the trainer has said "as fast as possible" I've done the best I can - but I still don't time myself.
This person asked me how do I know I've progressed. Ummm hello? 20 pounds, 2 dress sizes and I feel GREAT. I know I've progressed, but with that one simple question and that one simple conversation, I've started doubting myself. Am I failing at this? Am I NOT progressing? Am I NOT getting healthy and what not? So I chewed on the conversation and the way it made me feel and I've made a decision....
I will talk to the trainer when I see him Tuesday and have him explain to me, in a way I understand, WHY I need to time myself. If he can give me a reason I can wrap my brain around I'll start considering timing myself. I have come so very far in this journey, I am NOT going to let someone else's opinion on the timing of these workouts to derail my progress.
Now to enjoy my two days of rest...

Thursday February 24 - Day 54
While yesterday's workout was super hard at the end of it and we felt worse, today's workout had us both almost in tears and cussing the trainer....
20 push ups
20 Russian twists
20 bent over rows (with barbell)
20 bench press - with barbell and option of weight (yeah right!)
20 sit ups
20 shoulder press
3 rounds
Ummm wow. My arms were feeling heavy and hurting fairly quickly into this workout. We were already sore from the arms stuff of yesterday's workout (the push ups and the holding the barbell while we did squats), so all this arms stuff had us whimpering! It was horrible.
Fairly late in the afternoon, I texted the trainer cause I finally actually wrote out the workout and realized how nasty it looked. I told him as much.
After the work out, I texted him and told him that it was confirmed, the workout sucked ass and I'm fairly sure I won't be able to move my arms tomorrow or wash my hair for a week. Fucker.
That is all.

Wednesday February 23 - Day 53
Apparently, the Trainer did text me back yesterday...I just never got it. Ah well, at least we did something.
Today, I snitched on myself and told him I needed an "ass kicking workout" to make up for the Girl Scout cookies I ate. NEVER EVER make that request to your trainer, people. He WILL provide for you an ass kicking workout...
10 squats with weight (barbells used 35-45#)
20 push ups
30 lunges
2 stair runs
5 rounds
I just want it on record that my thighs are STILL burning - a little more than 2 hours later. It not only kicked my ass, but it kicked the shit outta my thighs. I thought they were on fire and they felt super heavy.
I may not be able to walk tomorrow...

Monday the 21st and Tuesday February 22 - Days 51 & 52
I was really distracted yesterday, due to a very good friend being in a car accident in Arizona and trying to remain updated on all the conditions of her family and her.
I didn't hear back from the Trainer yesterday or today, so we went back and repeated a few he'd already given us. Monday, we repeated the 100 sit ups; 10 burpees; 50 sit ups; 10 burpees; 25 sit ups; 10 burpees. Yes. I willingly did burpees without him telling me to do them. Ugh. I'm becoming addicted to this Crossfit thing, I'm sure of it.
Today's workout was kinda chosen by both of us - my workout partner went through a list of workouts we'd already done and I said okay to this one.
20 OH lunges (overhead lunges) with 10 pounds
20 squats
20 bent over rows w/barbell
50 sit ups
3 rounds
This made my knees weak, which I think was a repeat of how I felt the first time I did it lol. It was a lot harder than it looked on paper, that's for sure. We did it in fairly good time and even had a little time to chat with the P1 guys as they were starting their workout when we finished.
I'm hoping the Trainer is okay. He usually always gets back to us the same day and when he doesn't, he apologizes the next day when he realizes he missed us. Since we didn't hear from him either day, I'm a little concerned. Tomorrow is his duty day, so I'll see him in the morning to make sure he's alright.
We are thinking of shaking things up a bit sometime soon and starting to run the stairs at the training academy a few times a week.
These are the stairs we are thinking of doing:
We used to run these 2-3 times a week before we started walking downtown and then doing Crossfit. The last time I ran these, I was smoking a pack a day and could barely do these outside stairs three times without falling over. I'd love to see what I can do now!

Friday February 18 - Day 50
How do people usually celebrate doing something routinely for 50 days? I know that when I've gone 50 days without smoking, I will be buying myself something (that is, if I have money after going to the dentist next week).
At some point, I realized I had not heard from The Trainer and so at 2:45 this afternoon, I texted him with "either you got busy and forgot about me or the workout is going to be so heinous, you know I'll hate you for a minute or two and possibly cry." OMG! I was kidding! His response?
Run 1 mile
40 push ups
40 jump squats
40 lunges
40 Russian twists
40 shoulder press w/barbell
1 round
First, let me just say I am very grateful I only had one round of this. Second, I would like it on record that I finished the whole fucking workout. I did it without having to use my inhaler. I did it without falling out and crying my crybaby eyes out. I did it.
Yes, I may have walked a good portion of the mile, but I finished the mile.
Yes, I may have had to stop every 10 or so of each exercise to catch my breath and/or stop the burning sensation I felt in that area (specifically the lunges and squats burned!)
Yes, I may have hated the Trainer for a little longer than "a minute" like I threatened him with.
After I got home and about an hour after I finished the workout, I texted him and thanked him for not killing me. "Wow you suck. That was gross, but quite happy to report I did it all AND I did not need the inhaler this time. :P Thanks for not killing me today. lol"
He is so used to my random texts like that, I normally don't get a response unless there's a question in there. Thank goodness he gets me enough to know that I will randomly text him with what I have to say about these workouts and how they make me feel.
I am now going to go enjoy the rest of my evening by cuddling with my Josie, watching Criminal Minds reruns and trying not to fall asleep before 8pm on a Friday, since Laci and I canceled our plans for Mamma Mia!

Thursday February 17 Day 49
The Trainer was quite happy to see that I actually did survive the workout yesterday. We discussed it and I told him I think I just tried that shit too soon after still fighting the plague AND having asthma. He agreed and said "we may have tried running too soon. It's okay, it'll come."
And today it was just me, due to my workout partner having to work her 2nd job.
100 sit ups
10 burpees
50 sit ups
10 burpees
25 sit ups
10 burpees
Yeah. Not much to say about this, other than I finished it. I actually kicked some serious time on it. Currently, my abs are screaming at me. They are very sore! Not really looking forward to how they will feel tomorrow. Hopefully it's not as bad as I'm predicting.
We'll see what he's got for me tomorrow. It will have to be a fast one though, cause Miss Laci and I are going to see Mama Mia!

Wednesday February 16 - Day 48
Do you notice a huge gap in my workout entries? Yeah, me too! My last workout was Friday the 11th. I always have the weekends off and then Monday I was so sick I couldn't workout with The Trainer and my partner and yesterday, he gave us a day of rest.
Today, I texted him and told him I felt ready to get back to it. Oh emm geee. Maybe I wasn't. But, I do have to say, I finished MOST of this workout.
Go outside and run/jog 1/2 mile
back inside:
21-15-9
db thrusters
burpees
knee ups
go back outside & run/jog 1/2 mile
Okay people. I've done the 21-15-9 thing so many times, I can do it in my sleep. The ONLY thing I did different was jog half a mile before starting the indoor stuff. I fell out. I had to use my inhaler and felt my chest constricting and like I was having an asthma attack. I stopped in the middle of the burpees for the set of 9.
So basically I did:
1/2 mile jog
21-15-9 db thrusters
21-15-4 burpees
21-15 knee ups
That is it. I could not finish the burpees or the knee ups and I definitely could not do the second 1/2 mile jog.
While I am VERY pleased with the fact I got anything done after fighting off the plague this week, I am (of course and in true masochistic style) beating myself up for NOT finishing the whole workout. HOLY CRAP!
I have been so sick I can hardly BREATHE and I'm going to beat myself up for not finishing a stupid workout? I must be insane. I am truly sick and twisted. And here I am beating myself up for beating myself up for not finishing the workout. Makes perfect sense in my twisted head.
Bah!

Friday February 11 - Day 47
I almost didn't workout today. I had planned on working with my workout partner selling t shirts at a concert. And then I realized I did not want to be out/up until almost 3am selling stuff, on my feet and surrounded by all that noise when I still wasn't feeling well AND when I'm leaving for Lexington tomorrow. Just wasn't a good idea for me to do that. My throat is thanking me, even though it's in a rough spot right now. I'm sleeping it off!
5 stair runs
50 burpees
50 squats
50 sit ups
5 stair runs
1 round
When I first saw it I thought I was going to die. But it was only one round, so I knew I could do it. I hoped, anyway!
I finished it pretty quickly, even after bitching about the burpees again. I will not ever stop bitching when he puts those into my workout. And thinking I hated db snatches as much as burpees? Absolutely wrong. I was incorrect in that feeling. There is no way I could ever hate an exercise NEARLY as much as I hate burpees.
Hopefully, these workouts he gives us won't prove me wrong on that!
Time to rest the eyes!

Thursday - February 10 - Day 46
I was sitting at the doctor's office today when I texted The Trainer and ask him to send something if he gets a chance. Almost immediately, I got:
10 burpees
10 jump squats
10 db snatch - each arm (explanation in a minute)
10 v ups
10 knee ups
10 wall balls using 12# med ball (explanation coming)
Alrighty! This does not look fun. I texted him back and said "This looks gross, but definitely better than the half assed shit I came up with yesterday. Definitely not one of my better attempts."
We had to have the Platoon 1 guys show us the db snatches and wall balls. Yeah, I'm a 12 year old boy in a 41 year old woman's body cause I let my mind go into the gutter and thought these exercises sounded so nasty. I laughed my ass off.
The db snatch. I hate it. Since I hate it, this means I'm sure The Trainer will incorporate it into all my workouts. Kinda like burpees. He knows how much I hate them. I hate the db snatches almost as much as I hate the burpees.
I used a 15# dumbbell for these. Lay it on the ground between your feet - which are slightly more than hip width apart. Squat, pick up the db and then in one fluid motion, jump up and extend the db all the way in the air. Sound stupid? Yeah it LOOKS and FEELS stupid too. Makes absolutely no sense to me. None. And apparently, there is a "rhythm" you get into when doing these things. I found no such rhythm. Supposed to do them in one fluid movement. Yeah, there was nothing fluid about them for me. Nothing.
Wall balls were not that much better - but they weren't as bad as I thought. Hold the med ball in your hands, squat and when you come back up - throw the ball as high onto the wall as you can; then catch it. Stupid little exercise.
After that, I went and got my hair did so I may be a little extra cranky for having to sit in my own funk (sweat from the workout) for 3 extra hours after the nasty ass workout. Whatever.
YAY for completing 95% of this workout today, by the way. I didn't finish all of it. I sometimes can't find the extra reserve of energy to push myself that last little bit. Just didn't have it.

We never heard back from the trainer, so I came up with some half assed shit. I figured, at least we're doing something and it's better than not doing anything, right?
It was incredibly lame, I can only remember part of the work out! I remember we did 5 rounds and at least 5 real push ups per round. I know we did some knee ups and sit ups too. Beyond that, I have no recollection of what we did.
I also know that I didn't "feel" the workout yesterday. It just didn't really kick my ass like they usually do.
Oh well, I knew I'd get something for today....

Tuesday February 8 - Day 44
Normally, our trainer would have been at the office today and so we would have worked out with him in the building, making sure we're doing things correctly, etc. I texted him once I found out he was detailed to a different firehouse and asked for a workout when he got a chance to send it.
He made me very unhappy. Extremely unhappy and to the point I cussed him out BEFORE I did the workout. All I had to do was read it and I knew I hated him for this one moment in time.
21-15-9
burpees
knee ups
db thrusters
then 6 stair runs as fast as possible.
I really was displeased with this workout. I just did not feel good about it at all. I did it, so I feel accomplished but it hurt. My fingers are swollen from having two knee ups sets one day after another.
I realized as I was sitting here at home, I don't know that I thank him enough. I know I cuss at him all the time for the shit he gives us, but have I thanked him? So I looked back at my texts with him and I do say thanks or thank you after asking for a workout. However, I don't know if it's remembered as much as my cussing him is, ya know? This makes me worry about not thanking him enough.
I actually don't think I could ever thank him enough for what he's given me in the last 2.5 months. Talk about a total turn around! Yeah, I was walking and running stairs, but now? Now I'm feeling good about myself again, I'm feeling healthy, I'm looking fantastic and I'm so pleased with the results.
I need to thank him more.

Monday February 7 - Day 43 - start of Week 10
I had it in my head that I would make my workout partner contact our trainer for today's workout. I was mad at him for hurting us on Friday. It was horrible. And unfortunately for me, her phone was acting all wonky. So in order to make sure we got our workout, I texted him. *sigh* I hate giving in like that! Then again, it is easier for me to hate on him when he's not around and I don't talk to him.
5 dl (he didn't give us a weight - so we did 95#)
10 push ups (didn't say real or on knees - so we mixed it up and did as many real as we could before switching to on knees)
15 jump squats
20 lunges
25 v ups
2 stair runs
4 rounds
This is all my fault. Here's how it went down. I originally texted him at like 9am, asking for a workout. He immediately responded with a "sure will." Well then as the day went on, I realized he may have forgotten us. So sometime around 3:30p.m., I texted him with "either you forgot us, or it's going to make me cry. Just checkin." He immediately sent something back, saying he'd get it to us. He then sent me the above workout.
My partner and I could hardly talk during the workout (we are usually pretty chatty as we're doing this stuff). We agreed it was extremely difficult and I'm thinking I shouldn't have reminded him to send us one.
But we did it all four rounds and I know my workout partner rocks the stairs. I still struggle with the stairs. Hugely. Progress, not perfection! Right?

Today's workout - Friday the 4th - Day 42
I thought I'd never get caught up to current day WOD information!
My back was still sore from the previous two days workouts and I was just not looking forward to the damn thing anyway. It's Friday, I'm tired, I just want to go home and relax before doing my homework (mid term in one class and another paper in the other). I need concentration and worrying about how my body was going to be feeling was not what I wanted to think about!
20 Russian twists
20 knee ups (hanging from the pull up bar)
20 sit ups
20 alt v ups
2 stair runs
5 rounds
When he texted this to me, I almost burst into tears. You know it's bad when that happens. I sat there and stared at it for a good 45 minutes before texting him a thank you. I may or may not have told him that it just made me want to cry.
I am fairly certain he thinks I'm crazier than shit and I'm okay with that. I will text him outta the blue after a workout and tell him exactly what I'm thinking at that moment. And sometimes, it is NOT pleasant towards him lol He takes it and he laughs at me. He grins and says "I know, Kathy, it's okay, I do not mind."
Although, after today's workout? I told my partner I was not speaking to the trainer until at least Tuesday (when we would see him at work again) and she would have to get our workout for Monday.
I used to make fun of people like me. Always working out, even when you're super sore from the previous workout. Now I'm one of those people I used to hassle. Why? Why do we do this to ourselves? It makes no bloody sense to me. But I do like the results. I like what I'm seeing and feeling. I like that my clothes are getting loose around the waist. I like that my legs are feeling and looking pretty muscular. I like that my neck and face have more definition to my facial features than before. I like that my chest has not really gotten smaller, even though I've lost weight with these workouts and walking we did before the workouts. I've gotten really used to being able to run up and down the stairs at work without getting winded (when I'm not going from basement to 2nd floor like in the workouts).
Until next week, when we start week 10.

I knew it would hurt. I knew I would be near tears by the end of it. What I did not know is how I'd do it. I have not been able to breathe through my nose for days. Days. It's driving me insane! I dislike breathing through my mouth cause it makes me thirsty and makes my throat freaking hurt!

February 2nd and 3rd - Week 9
Wednesday the 2nd - Day 40
10 DL - (95#)
10 burpees
10 push ups
10 push press
5 rounds
Holy freaking deadlifts, Batman! My back is STILL hurting (I wrote that 3 hours after the workout)....two days after the workout? My back is still sore.
Thursday the 3rd - Day 41
20 OH lunges (10# plate)
20 squats
20 bent over rows w/bar
50 sit ups
3 rounds
With my back still hurting horribly from the previous days workout, I didn't know how much of this workout I'd actually do. I surprised myself and finished about 90% of it. I know I did not finish all the sit ups in each round - but I was moving and doing something! The overhead lunges actually weren't all that bad. I don't know why those seemed easy to me.

Monday January 31 & Tuesday February 1 - Week 9
Week 9 starts with us not hearing back from the trainer. He has three different jobs, so it's always a possibility that we do not hear from him.
Monday the 31st - Day 38
2 stair runs
15 push ups
20 squats
25 v ups
4 rounds
I did this one - it kicked our asses. My workout partner cussed me like she does our trainer. I felt vindicated hahaha I don't know why it pleased me so much when she cussed me. Now I know why it doesn't bother him when we tell him to f off or some other colorful wording.
Tuesday the 1st - Day 39
21-15-9
db thrusters
burpees
step ups
Any workout that starts with the 21-15-9 is going to suck. Just saying. And then added to that, it has thrusters AND burpees? Holy smokes. So for a total of 45 of each of those exercises, I hated every flipping second of it. Every.second. And I got matching bruises on my knees. AGAIN!
Really need to figure out what the hell I'm doing wrong on these things that it's giving me bruises on both knees. Maybe my legs are too long?

Week 8 January 24 - January 28
I am almost caught up, so pretty soon I'll be posting once a day about our workout and other things related to how I've been making changes (quit smoking, etc).
Monday the 24th - Day 33
10 burpees to step ups
20 squats
30 sit ups
20 bent over rows
10 real push ups
5 rounds
Ummm really? Seriously! I really disliked this workout too. I've seen a pattern here, I hate the workouts. Despise them! But I really enjoy the results I'm feeling and seeing. I'm more pleased with how I've been feeling.
Tuesday the 25th - Day 34
5 stair runs
40 step ups
30 alt v ups
20 sit ups
10 push press
3 rounds
Yesterday meant nothing compared to the hatred I felt on this day. HOLY SHIT BALLS! This was ugly, it was difficult to finish. I think he hates me
Wednesday the 26th - Day 35
2 stair runs
25 squats
30 sit ups
Didn't hear back from the trainer, so I made this one up. It was pretty good I guess.
Thursday the 27th - Day 36
10 rounds:
stairs
burpees
While one runs a set of stairs, the other does burpees...until 10 rounds are complete.
Yeah. Nothing good to say about this one.
Friday the 28th - Day 37
40 squats
20 push press
20 Russian twists
20 db swings
3 rounds
Ummm ouch. Squats AND db swings (which have squats in them) on the same day suck serious assage. I was feeling good about this workout though.

Week 7 January 17 - January 21
Day 28 - Monday the 17th
Since it was MLK day, I didn't want to miss a workout, so I went over to UofL and used the track. I walked a half mile, ran a half mile, and did that until I finished 2.5 total miles. It felt good and then I met my workout partner for lunch at Qdoba.
Day 29 - Tuesday the 18th
5 burpees
10 DB clean & jerks
15 squats
20 v ups
5 rounds
WOW! This was very hard for me to get through. I felt good about it 3.5 hours later. This was the first full workout since I quite smoking and I am very proud of myself!
Day 30 - Wednesday the 19th
10 push ups
20 lunges
10 squats
5 burpees
5 rounds as fast as possible
I seriously hate the words "as fast as possible" or "time yourself" It makes me have some sort of brain freeze and I can't perform to a level I feel comfortable with. I totally shut down. I get stupid. Hate it. Working on it though!
I finished 3 rounds of this workout. I felt horrible. I beat myself up to the point I was in tears by the time I got home and I stayed that way for hours after. I also struggled with my breathing in this workout.
Day 31 - Thursday the 20th
We never heard back from our trainer, so we did
2 stair runs
25 v ups
20 push press
4 rounds
Felt better about today's workout and overall feeling better about the day. Struggling to breathe through my nose and it sends me into a panic, which makes me struggle more. Trying to work around this.
Day 32 - Friday the 21st
2 stair runs
20 jump squats
20 bent over rows
20 push ups
5 rounds
Definitely one of the harder we've done (in my opinion). It hurt but I finished all five rounds!

5 rounds

Week 6 - January 10 - January 14
Day 23 - Monday the 10th
2 stair runs
10 burpees (ARGH!)
10 thrusters
15 knee lifts
3 rounds
100 alt v ups
HOLY CRAP! My shoulders hurt on this one and my hands were still hurting from the last knee ups we had done. I did them all though. I finished all 3 rounds and the alt v ups kicked my freaking ass! Only thing that keeps me going on these exercises is that I know I'm not alone and he tends to give himself a hard workout too on most days.
Day 24 - Tuesday the 11th
50 sit ups
5 stair runs
3 rounds
100 push ups
I thought I was going to die! My arms were really sore and my abs hurt. The hardest for me though is the stair runs. My quit date is approaching at this point, but damn those stairs kill me.
Day 25 - Wednesday the 12th
1 min. of push press (35#)
1 min. of burpees
1 min. of sit ups
1 min. of db swings
1 min. of squats
1 min. rest
2 rounds (possibly 3 - my workout partner did 3)
I really hated this workout. From the time it started, to the time it ended. I did not like it and it made me hate exercise and working out for 12-15 minutes. I am glad I finished both rounds. I really need to stop beating myself up when I struggle with these exercises.
Day 26 - Thursday the 13th
30 push ups
2 stair runs
4 rounds
Never heard from Andy so I made sure I did something. Tried some knee ups but my left shoulder felt like there was a tear or pulled muscle there so I stopped that immediately. Kind of glad for this break from the intensity.
Day 27 - Friday the 14th
2 stair runs
25 squats
25 alt v ups
4 rounds
Felt good with this one and had no complaints. I was sucking air pretty early into the stair runs though. It's okay, my quit date is tomorrow.

25 squats
25 alt v ups
4 rounds
Felt good with this one and had no complaints. I was sucking air pretty early into the stair runs though. It's okay, my quit date is tomorrow.
Week 5 January 3 - January 7
As the new year began, I was ready to keep moving forward with it!
Day 18 - Monday the 3rd
10 burpees
20 squats
30 sit ups (with 5# weight on chest)
2 stair runs (with 5# weight in each hand)
4 rounds.
Really struggling on the burpees at this point. I freaking hate them with every breath I take while doing them. Horrible for me! I struggled on the sit ups and the stair runs on this day too. I ended up puking on my way home. I pulled over on the 71, going north and puked. It was not a pretty day for work outs for me.
Day 19 - Tuesday the 4th
20 push ups
20 squats
20 alt v-ups
5 rounds
Struggled with the push ups, but I finished all the rounds. Push ups (like burpees) hurt my wrists really badly some days. I can feel the different in my arms though with these push ups. Even on my knees (the girlie ones!), I can do about 7 before beginning to struggle. I even ran the stairs at the Yum! Center when my Workout Partner and I went to eat and then to a Lady Cards game there.
Day 20 - Wednesday the 5th
25 sit ups
1 stair run
25 alt v ups
1 stair run
30 Russian twists
1 stair run
3 rounds
Very different and very abs focused! Could hard do the twists, it was killing my back. It was so painful I actually had to stop at one point. I tried different ways (with feet in the air, with feet on the ground with toes pointing up) nothing worked. After I got home, I looked the exercise up on line and found I had been positioning myself all wrong - no wonder it hurt!
Day 21 - Thursday the 6th
5 burpees
10 push press
15 knee ups
5 rounds
5 stair runs
OMG Burpees and stair runs in the same day absolutely make me sick to my stomach. Feel good about this workout over all, but argh I can't wait until my cardio stamina improves.
Day 22 - Friday the 7th
3 stair runs
50 squats
30 sit ups
20 push ups
10 jumping pull ups
Neither of us could do the pull ups. I don't know if it's because we didn't really "get" what he meant by "jumping" or if we just couldn't do it. I'd like to think it's because we didn't understand what he was wanting us to do. We improvised and did some modified pull ups on two different bars. I was really sore after this workout and didn't know if I would be able to move my arms the next day.
Day 18 - Monday the 3rd

20 squats
30 sit ups (with 5# weight on chest)

Week 4 December 27 - December 29
To ensure we didn't hang onto the weight we may or may not have gained over the holidays, our lovely trainer had us start Week 4 with:
Monday - Day 14
5 stair runs
50 squats
50 push ups
50 alt v ups each leg (100 total?)
50 lunges
5 stair runs
Fucking seriously. I thought I was going to die, but I did it minus 2 of the stair runs. I'm getting stronger and better with the stuff he's leaving us. My neck hurts, so I need to watch my form on the alt v ups and sit ups.
Tuesday - Day 15
1 stair run
5 burpees
10 sit ups
*10 rounds
Holy crap! First, burpees are the devils creation, I'm sure of it. I made it to round 7 on this one. I had to stop and use my inhaler, so I did not complete this workout. I was in tears just laying on the mat wishing I could calm down. Yes, I was still smoking at this point. And like the masochist I apparently am, I went home and beat myself up for not finishing. mmmhmm
Wednesday - Day 16
5 stair runs
25 push ups
5 stair runs
50 squats
*2 rounds
Struggled with the stairs but made 19 out of the 20 assigned. I added 20 sit ups before each stair run just to give myself a little extra time to breathe before going up those damn stairs.
This was a short week because I took a vacation day and then the holiday weekend to go visit my family. I felt bad leaving Cheryl on the following day (Thursday) but really? I was just glad to get outta the Ville for the weekend!
Monday - Day 14
5 stair runs
50 squats
50 push ups
50 alt v ups each leg (100 total?)
50 lunges
5 stair runs

Week 3 - December 20 - December 23
I decided to do this a little differently. I'm trying to post these past workouts so I can actually start posting about the current workouts! I'm going to combine each week into one post from here on out until I get caught up and I'm posting about our current stuff that we are doing.
Monday - Day 10
4 stair runs (holy crap!)
20 push ups
20 lunges
40 squats
40 sit ups
*3 rounds
This one killed me with the stairs. I know I did not finish them all, but damnit I was trying my best!
Tuesday - Day 11
5 burpees (cries her eyes out)
10 push ups
15 squats
20 sit ups
*5 rounds
5 stair runs
I struggled on the burpees, but the Trainer was there that day so I was able to cuss him and call him names while I did it. It seems to take some of the hatred of the exercise away. It also motivated me to finish the shit! I did four stair runs instead of the assigned 5. I was still smoking!
Wednesday - Day 12
10 push ups
15 lunges (per leg - so basically 30 lunges)
20 squats
25 sit ups
*4 rounds
I really struggled with the lunges on this day. I don't know if it was because my mind was still thinking of all those lunges we did during week one? I dunno, but I struggled and I felt sick to my stomach afterward.
Thursday - Day 13
We did not hear from the Trainer, so we made up one for ourselves:
10 push ups
15 shoulder press
25 sit ups
1 stair run
*4 rounds
Definitely not enough for the length of time we've been doing this.
We were off for the holiday weekend after that

Day 9 - December 17
At this point, I knew I wouldn't be giving up on the workouts unless I couldn't breathe or ended up puking, ya know? I knew I wanted to keep doing it because I was already feeling better. The pain and discomfort of the first few days had faded into a memory.
3 stair runs
25 sit ups
*4 rounds
Seriously! 3 stair runs in a row? Did I mention our stairs go from the basement up to the 2nd floor? Mmmhmmm this one was hard on me. I know I did not complete all 12 of the stairs he assigned us, but I was moving! I was running those stairs sucking air, panting like a dog and killing myself.

Days 7 and 8 - December 15 & 16
Day 7's workout freaked me the hell out cause it was something new and the Trainer was not on that day, so we had to get the guys on Platoon 1 to help us.
1 stair run
20 sit ups
*3 rounds
21-15-9
thrusters and burpees
Okay. The first part of 3 rounds of sit ups and stairs was understandable. However, the second part was not so understandable. I asked my friend S on that shift to help us out. I seriously wish I had NOT asked him what a thruster was. We did 21 thrusters (squat with weight bar at chest, as standing up from squat - thrust bar into the air over head) and 21 burpees and then 15 of each and then 9 of each (hence the 21-15-9 thing) It was horrible. Disgusting. And of course, the burpees made it all so much worse.
Day 8 -
30 lunges
20 alt v ups
10 shoulder press
*3 rounds
5 stair runs as fast as you can
I did not complete the stair runs this day. It was horrible. I could not breathe worth a damn and I ended up doing I think 2.5 rounds of the stairs.
I justified it by saying I was still smoking, which I was.

Day 5 - December 13 and Day 6 - December 14
The workout on this day wasn't too hard, I just found it uncomfortable doing the bent over rows. My discomfort level was manageable and at that time, I was still a little wary about what I was getting into with this Crossfit stuff.
1 stair run (GAH! I hate those freaking stairs!)
20 bent over rows w/bar (standing up rowing without a machine)
1 stair run
20 V ups
1 stair run
20 push ups
*2 rounds
This one had me ready to puke cause of the stairs. Remember, at this point I was still smoking about 15-20 cigarettes per day so my cardio was seriously lacking.
Day 6 - December 14
We never heard from the Trainer on this day, so we repeated Day 5 - except I substituted squats for push ups.
I was still pretty unsure if I wanted to continue doing this. The Trainer was telling us we weren't even into the real Crossfit exercises yet. WTF?! Seriously? It gets worse?

Day 4 - December 10
Oh thank God it's Friday!! That was my first thought when I woke up on this day. I found that my discomfort levels had diminished a little bit over night. I could actually move without whimpering, sometimes. The sitting down thing kept me whimpering though. Squats and lunges will do that to ya!
10 jump squats (when coming up from the squat, jump in the air)
10 v ups (instead of a sit up - raise both arms and legs at same time until core area in a V shape - LOVE these)
10 push press
5 burpees (huh?)
* 3 rounds
When he sent us this work out, my first question was, what the fuck is a burpee?! and my second question was he wants me to do WHAT?! Burpees are the bane of my existence in these workouts. From the day they were introduced until even now - into week nine. They are similar to a "squat and lunge," but I don't know if I've explained that well enough. I'd go to the Crossfit main homepage or google a "burpee." Disgusting exercises.
I was so grateful that it was Friday so I could go home and whimper all weekend long without people making fun of me.

Day 3 - December 9
As the third day dawned, I found myself in so much pain I could not stop bitching about Crossfit and how I wanted to hurt The Trainer. I hated him. I was dragging ass from being in so much pain from the previous two days.
Most people who do Crossfit will workout three days in a row and then take one day off and continue that way. Some others will workout five days in a row and then take two days off. The latter is what my workout partner and I have decided to do. This makes it easier for us since we know we would not do these exercises at home, so keeping it all at work keeps us both focused.
Our workout for the third day:
10 squats
10 push ups (on knees)
10 sit ups
*5 rounds (as fast as possible)
The words "as fast as possible" seem to make me freeze. I just stop. I get stupid and I don't know what I'm doing. It's the weirdest thing and it drives me insane. Those words and "time yourself" send me into a spiral of defiance and stupidity. It's silly really, but I can not seem to complete workouts when those words are used. It's a mental issue, I know.
I could still hardly move on this day and I was dragging ass trying to go as fast as possible and not freak out that I was actually doing physical stuff!
I was so discouraged at this point, I was really ready to quit. I just wanted the pain to stop. I was near tears all the time.

Day 2 - December 8
After our first workout with the new trainer, I was beginning to think I didn't want to do this. I was in so much pain and could hardly walk. I had always expected a certain level of discomfort from a good, hard workout, but holy crap was I hurting. It hurt to move every muscle in my body from my waist down. It was horrible!
Our workout for the second day was not any easier than the first!
20 squats
1 stair run
20 sit ups
1 stair run
20 lunges
1 stair run
*3 rounds
Once again, I thought I was going to die. It was horrendous to me. I kept thinking to myself "If this does not improve within the next week, I'm telling them to kiss my ass and I won't do this shit." Sadly, we weren't even really doing Crossfit yet. He had us doing basic exercises that could be done anywhere.
After this workout, I really felt like I was going to quit. I talked about it with my Workout Partner and she actually reminded me that I had said I would give it two weeks before deciding to keep going or to quit. I'm glad I gave it some extra time.
